Tauranga branch ditches one-use paper cups
Concerned by the huge number of one-use paper cups going to landfill, our
Enviro NZ Tauranga team came up with a solution.
According to Branch Manager Kevin, “We were really frustrated with the amount of paper cups being thrown away, realising it wasn’t a good look for a company who should be practicing what we promote.”
Tossing more than 8,000 cups a year was creating waste and emissions...and it was pricey!
So, after considering a range of options each staff member now has a ‘keep cup’ made from 50% rice husk that can be used instead of throw away cups.
“We talked through the new keep cups idea with staff who have fully embraced the sustainability initiative. And the results are impressive -- reduced waste, lower emissions, happier employees, and an annual cost savings of nearly $1,600,” Kevin said.
