Greyhounds bring smiles to Palmerston North with everyday environmentalist, Sarah

Meet our latest everyday environmentalist at Enviro NZ

Our latest Enviro NZ everyday environmentalist is Sarah (pictured above), Application Consultant in Palmerston North who helps Greyhounds that are being rehomed AND cheers up workmates at the same time.

Stephanie (top photo) & Ali (bottom photo) are pictured here with Greyhound, Seattle.

When the office has a quieter time, or even if the energy levels are a bit low, she finds bringing in one of the up for adoption Greyhounds from Nightrave Greyhounds a welcome treat.

The trip is always a guaranteed smile raising, mood boosting experience for both the Greyhounds and humans alike.

This serves a dual purpose, getting the dogs acclimated to ‘Dog life’ by meeting new people and places but also lifts the spirits when they might be feeling a bit less than great.

What is Nightrave Greyhounds? Nightrave Greyhounds was founded in 2012 by Fatima Avdic and Rachel Rae to ensure that every greyhound had every chance of finding a perfect home after retiring from racing.

Greyhounds are versatile dogs, highly intelligent, and highly trainable if you go about it the right way!

The dogs are all testament to this: our pet greyhounds have competed successfully in Rally-O, agility, and obedience, and in the breed show ring.

Additionally, the greyhounds have achieved awards in Canine Good Citizen, and performed diligently as Canine Friends over many years.

About Sarah’s involvement:

“I initially met Rachel through the Feilding dog training club where I am a member. My sister works at Nightrave Greyhounds and so I decided to visit one weekend to meet these Greyhounds I had heard so much about.”

“Since then (about 2 years ago) I have become a regular visitor, sometimes filling in when employees are sick and an avid supporter, attending adoption events to help promote this breed, break the stigma about the greyhound racing industry and most of all giving all the pats and treats I can until they find forever homes.”

“So, all in all both the Greyhounds and my workmates are winners!”
